::PLANTATION - TOBACCO:: Tobacco was labor intensive in both growth and harvesting. Tobacco was shipped back to England in a hogshead, the leaves being tied into hands. It might be returned to the colonies for sale as a rope or twisted. Ends could be cut directly into a pipe. Loose tobacco might be kept in a tobacco box with a magnifing glass for easy lighting.
